Welcome to the SGSL!

SGSL is a resource site produced by Western Australia's experts in Sustainable Grazing on Saline Lands.

SGSL was a national program with a balance of scientific research, farmer trials and a Producer Network through which information was shared. In WA the Producer Network was managed by a coordinating group, independently chaired and made up of a majority of interested farmers that represented the four main NRM regions in the WA agriculture area and the Saltland Pastures Association.

In the Case Studies section you'll find a full set of 21 documents, known as Have a Yarn which provide a unique insight into real problems facing farm managers and how they have dealt with them. Each case study also features a "quick facts" panel which cuts to the chase and highlights the key factors at play.

In the Saltland Scoring and Solutions section you'll get the scientist's perspective and some real world tools to help recognise and rate your saltland and solutions. This information is presented according to the three rainfall zones in the Western Australian agricultural area.

All of the documents are available as PDF downloads for you to read at your leisure on screen or as a print out.

We also have an Economics Calculator that works out the $ costs and $ returns of revegetating saltland with saltland pastures, based on 24 real sites.

Enjoy :)
